JACKSON SIGNS NEW DEAL AND JOINS LIVINGSTON ON LOAN

Ben Jackson has signed a contract extension and will immediately head out on loan to Scottish Championship side Livingston for the 2024/25 season.

The 20-year-old defender’s new deal runs until June 2025, with a club option for a further year.

Men’s under-21 head coach Shannon Ruth said, “We were pleased with Ben’s progress last season. He is a player who has some strong attributes and is the type of centre back we like to have here in the academy.

“Now he has an excellent opportunity to take that step into a men’s first team environment. Gordon Greer’s department will keep a close eye on his development over the course of the season.”

Ben joined us from Watford in 2020, becoming a part of our under-18s, before making the step up to the under-21s during the 2022/23 season.

with respect to Livingston, if at 20 years old the best team we can find that wants him on loan is in the Scottish Championship, he’s clearly never going to play for Brighton. Whats the point in extending his contract?

Maybe we rate him higher than those not wanting to take him on loan

Probably just to ensure that we can get a small fee at the end and maybe insert a sell on if he develops well later on.

His previous contract ended this summer, so he could have left on a free (although I think we might be eligible for some development money?) With a one year contract (with an option for a further year) we could potentially get a fee for him.

Good luck, Ben - and if you happen to score a goal, DON'T do a knee slide to celebrate!

.....and he's already played in three of their pre-season friendlies!

Killian Cahill (GK) has singed a one year extension to 2025, with a club option for further year - same deal as Ben Jackson. Yet another Albion GK about to embark on loan?

Last year RDZ said something along the lines that he needed to go somewhere, where he was playing full matches weekly. That didn't happen in the Championship, so maybe the idea is to go somewhere where that can happen.

Surely it wouldn't take an SPL loan though?

Probably not - but it will be interesting to see what a successful loan at Rangers has done for Sima; maybe the SPL will turn out to be not quite the graveyard that many on NSC think it is.
Still can't see Sarmiento to Aberdeen though.

I know we probably won't retain Sima but I would like him to feature in a pre-season friendly or two just to see him play in an Albion shirt!

Why are we sending players out on loan to the MTL ? They would do better at League 2 clubs.

Let's see how it works out for young Jackson first, eh? Turned out OK for Sima and Cochrane while League2 loans didn't do much in recent years for Teddy Jenks, Lorent Tolaj, Jack Spong or Todd Miller, all of whom were released at the end of their loans.

Assuming it is the same as last season, keep an eye out for BBC Scotland showing Championship games live on a Friday evening. Livingston should be one of the favorites to go up this season.

Thanks for the tip. I will try and keep an eye open (so long as it's available on Freeview).

Aberdeen recently hired a Swedish coach who does have a good track record of developing wingers. Elfsborg sold no less than three wingers to bigger clubs last season.

Despite that... just don't see it. If Sarmiento goes to SPL, its to one of the big teams.
