Anyone see the young Brit in the Tae Kwondo.

Now here is an event the Brits should win gold at. I've seen plenty of indigenous skills like this at chucking out time.

Extra points for a kick in the head - great stuff.

He beat the guy from the Marshall Islands 7-0 (apparently the fights get stopped when/if one of them gets a 7 point advantage), and will be fighting a Venezuelan next.

Before I saw that fight, I'd never watched taekwondo in my life, but anything that a Brit is doing OK at is alright with me.

He won again, which puts him into the semi-finals.

...doesn't that mean he is guaranteed at least a bronze?

Not quite.

If he wins his semi, he goes into the final for the gold/silver medals, if he loses his semi, then he'll fight the loser of the other semi for bronze.

I think.

I can't work out how you get points? A kick that connects and what else?

There are 4 judges at ringside, each with an electronic button thingy. If a kick hits, 3 out of the 4 judges have to press their button simultaneously for it to register as a point.

I THINK (being as I've only ever watched it today), you get one point for a kick to the body (landing on that protector thing they wear) and two for a kick to the head.

Its GAY Tae Kwon Do.

WTF is shite coz they cant use their hands. Generally whoever kicks first loses because the other person just counters, so they bounce around the ring like muppets for an age waitingfor someone to make the first move.

PROPER Tae Kwon Do is the ITF form where hands are allowed, and there is a campaign to get this for in the olympics. Think boxing with kicks as well.

He was robbed in the Bronze play-off against ther Chinese. The scoring was a farce as there were 2 Chinese judges - he didn't have a chance if 3 out of 4 have to say it was a score !!
