Hi all,

I have put together a Swansea away guide for the Brighton fans travelling to south Wales on 8th January.

It contains directions to the stadium, places to eat, drink and stay, plus some history on the club and players to watch.
http://www.swansonline.net/away

There is also a collection of Liberty Stadium images here...

If you have any questions not covered in the away guide I would be happy to help.

Safe journey and enjoy your visit.

Thanks for that.

£5.10 to get across the bridge!

I can't even remember paying anything when we were in the play off final.

Swans fans have been accused of pelting coaches carrying Leeds fans with bricks and other missiles after Saturday's big game at the Liberty Stadium.According to a club insider, the Leeds coaches had to be driven through hundreds of Swansea fans making their way from the stadium on foot.

At least two coaches had windows smashed, despite a massive police presence at the ground, and there were six arrests on the day.

One Leeds fan, who travelled from Gloucester to watch the League One game with his son, said: "It's a pity Welsh football seems to be stuck in the 1970s."

Keith Turner made the journey to watch the top-of-the-table clash at the Liberty Stadium and said policing should have been better.

He said: "It's a pity that, with all the police in attendance, they couldn't even guarantee safe passage of the two buses back to the stadium park and ride.

"The first took two bricks through the windows and the second a single brick which showered my son and four others with glass - it's miracle nobody was seriously hurt."

Thousands of Leeds United fans came to the city to see their team beaten 3-2 by the Swans.

Extra police had been drafted in to make sure fans did not clash before or after the game.

At one point before the match, more than 50 uniformed officers were outside Swansea railway station waiting for the Leeds fans to arrive so they could be escorted to the ground.

Another dozen were in Wind Street over the lunchtime period.

But that did not stop a number of troublemakers souring Saturday's victory that leaves Swansea sitting pretty at the top of the table over new year.

As well as coaches being attacked after the game, there were reports of violence in the city centre.

A number of Leeds fans had made their way to the King's Arms pub in High Street after arriving in the city.

At around 1pm some Swansea City fans arrived and, according to one eyewitness, violence erupted on the street.

Luke Gill, a barman at the pub, said: "It looked like two gangs arrived outside. We were quite busy with Leeds fans, and then all of a sudden there was a massive outbreak just outside.

"Five or six police riot vans arrived, along with four mounted police.

"It looked like there were a couple of arrests, but most of them were moved on towards the train station."

Swansea Supporters Trust spokesman Phil Sumbler said he feared the people who attacked the coaches would make life difficult for genuine fans the next time the two clubs met in Yorkshire. He said: "The problem is that the next time we are in Leeds there is likely to be some repercussions for our fans.

"It's a shame away fans cannot come down to Swansea and enjoy the day."

Despite the trouble before and after the match, Swans director David Morgan said there was little evidence of problems inside the Liberty.

"There were some reports of coin throwing between the fans during the match. But there were no major incidents inside the stadium," he said.

Leeds United message boards have been full of fans complaining about the way police handled the end of the game.

Police confirmed that six people were arrested - four Swans fans and two Leeds fans - but no-one was able to comment further on Saturday's operation.

I have to be honest (and of course i am not aware of what happened on saturday, and there has been nothing on the local news about any trouble) but i have been to the liberty stadium a few times (and have an office in Swansea) and have never seen or even heard about any trouble there, i have just rung a mate of mine who is a Swans STH, and he was at the game on saturday, but he didnt hear or see any trouble.

I would be interested to know the full details before casting the blame one way or the other, lets be honest, sometimes people retaliate because they have been provoked in the first place, and i dont suppose the Leeds supporters were over joyed about being beaten.

I would agree. I went to the game last April. We went to the pub opposite the ground and sat outside with our drinks on the grassy bank. Loads of Swansea fans came up and talked to us. Some of the friendliest fans I have met.

I tend to agree with you Yorkie, thats why i have said in my post above, that i find it hard to believe they were not provoked into retaliating, or the like.

I rang my friend last night who actually has an office inside the Liberty stadium and is also a masive Swans Fan, and he said he had not heard about any trouble last saturday, i am not suggesting there was none at all, what i am saying is it probably was not as bad as it looks on the post that started this thread.

that report is pretty much spot on hitony. there wasnt much trouble in the ground, the usual coin throwing, leeds in the home end etc but pre game there was bother. the police were doing some sort of comedy sketch i think,. they certainly were not policing. but hey ho, six of one, half a dozen of the other,

Hiya Paddy ? i assume,

Please dont think i am trying to defend the Swans, as i am not, as much as i live and work in wales i most certainly have no loyalty towards them.

All i was trying to say was as a local (pretty much) i had not heard anything that underlined that report, and its very unusual for something like that not to be on the local TV news or indeed in the local press, and because the first post contents seemed to come from the Leeds end of things, i was just wondering how true it was, but i am guessing you were at the game (and i was not) so i accept your far better judgement on the issue

(in all fairness i was at the Spurs / Arsenal game back in the early 70s when a gun was shot, if you think the police were a comedy act last saturday, you should of seen them that day )

Swansea were some of the worst fans we have ever had the pleasure of coming across. Anyone remember the game at the Vetch about 8 years ago. It was a couple of days before christmas and i know a few Brighton fans owe them one after what happened on the train. Scum of Britain.
