Watching Man City this evening reminded me exactly why I was so glad the press hounded this particularly successful England manager out of a job. Thank god for Steve Mclaren.

Abort, retry, fail
Seven wins, one draw and two defeats for the perennial underachievers. Clueless Sven continues to butcher a decent team.

I agree with your sentiments, Jim'll. We are truly blessed to have a great man, in McLaren, at the helm.

Yep getting to the quarter finals of major tournaments with the best crop of english players in decades is success! Sorry but to be honest when we qualify for these things qtr finals is always a minimum. He met expectatations nothing more really.

So he was decidedly average overall.

But still a country mile better than McLaren will ever be. Sven has class, Mclaren has Boro.

Sven is doing really well at Man City but his England teams were dull to watch 95% of the time, McClaren seems to know the strengths of English football are not to try and play like Italians thank God Sven and his negative tactics are gone from our national game, I for one prefer MClaren on the strength of recent England performances

They may be the best ENGLISH players in a generation, but in terms of world class, they were still nothing special.

so because Sven in managing a club where he can pick players to suit his style has been doing well, it a mistake to get rid of him as national manager where he insisted on playing squre players in the round holes of his tactics?

such short memories. good luck to him at Man City, but he wasted some of our finest talent over the last few years. (and no, McClaren is not the answer either)

In truth Sven does look far more suited to club management than he did to International management. A consistent level of performance from your team brings you success in a league season, but in International football you need to build the intensity as the tournament progresses, and we simply never did that under Sven. As a result he could only take us so far.

The fact that the FA made a safe / poor / dull appointment after Sven, doesn't make Sven a better International manager. That's irrelevant.
