There was a good discussion between Athers and Holding yesterday about the benefits - if any - of a county employing England players.

Basically they seemed to agree that bar some marketing value, there was virtually zero playing benefit at all to the county these days, all this being with a view to why anyone would enter in to an auction for Morgan's services.

Athers was even speculating whether Kevin Pietersen would even bother playing for a county at all, and just be under England contract and then some sort of 'freelance' gun for hire.

The emphasis is the total opposite of what happens in football currently, and to be honest neither seems right.
