I understand the issues we've had with Bopara, but he was comfortably our top T20 run scorer this season. I bloody hope they have something good in mind as our batting line up was already too light.
Counts for nothing if the teams fails and he is skipper. Farbrace has Sussed him and being late for the match at Hants probably sealed his fate. Waste of money.

He signed to play all formats and should have ended contract the moment he said only would play 20/20
he came across as selfish and aloof.
but the reality is he was comfortably our best player this season.
God knows how we will replace him

OK, well let's hope we can get someone in to score runs next season. Our top two this year were Ravi and Burgess who was on loan.

… and that’s the problem. It’s just franchise cricket where players take what they can and don’t really care who they are playing for. Sky just want to see sixes and fours and the crowd don’t seem to care who wins as long as there are fireworks, wigs and placards to hold up.

That may be our problem, but they don't really have that issue at Hampshire or Somerset for example. My issue is this is yet another proven player heading out the door.

I just hope we have 2 or 3 incoming players lined up or we could be next seasons Middlesex in t20.

Exactly this. He is also our second most economical bowler I think. What are people expecting him to do?

I don't know what he's costing the club in wages but the team will be a lot weaker without him in my opinion, unless we make some very astute signings which I think is highly unlikely.

so many time this season he calmed everything down in the field with a stingy spell.
We will struggle to replace that as much as his runs.
one thing Is for sure - you can’t easily replace what he offered This season.

Looking ahead to next season the T20 side would look some combination of;

Orr
Ward
Clark
Alsop
Carter
Coles
Lamb
Rawlins (although it seems he's played his last game for the club)
FHP
Garton
Karvelas
Mills
Currie

There are some handy players in there but no real match winners with the bat or ball.

Think we would need one overseas batsman and one overseas all rounder (probably a spinner).

I see Notts have raided Worcestershire again - Josh Tongue and Dillon Pennington to move ahead of the 2024 season.

Notts host Test matches. Worcs don’t. Notts have more money. That’s how it works!

Yep. Worcs have notts and we have Surrey.
Feeder clubs.
I wonder if there are significant transfer fees?
If it’s just nominal conpensation at best, what is the point of the smaller counties developing players ? As soon as they are match winners they get poached

Exactly. Never heard of a transfer fee although players usually/often honour their contract (I think)

I believe there is (was?) an arrangement where if a player has moved/been poached, the fees paid to the clubs by the ECB for using their players go to the club that developed the player. So for example when Phil Salt turns out for England, Sussex would get the match fee rather than Lancashire.

Whether that's still the case, I'm not sure. Obviously that doesn't help the smaller county if the player isn't good enough to get called up

Sussex v Derbyshire at Hove innit. Sussex INSTERTED, currently 20/0 from 2.summat

Not batting too deep here so plenty needed from the top 5. Great bolwing options though so should be competitive. Oh and they are bottom.

Not sure how to describe that batting line up really. I think it IS 'deep' insofar as all the way down to at least 9 are pretty capable. BUt I'm not sure I've ever seen a county XI with so few specialist batsmen!
