A rather Socialist system, if you will. Which is rather ironic, given the American media's traditional dismissal of anything even vaguely socialist in concept as Commie crap, to be feared and destroyed.

and no concept at all of the radicalism that is promotion and relegation

Oh good a debate about whether American football is any good or not. Lets also have discussions about Islam, immigration, Celtic v Rangers, the death penalty.

1. Its reported that 163million tunned in over the course of the Superbowl on Sunday. (cant find official numbers yet)
2. The system which England football has in place (in regards to leagues, promotion relegation etc) Would never work here because of the manor in which they NFL has taken over the market. Other leagues have tried to compete but it just doenst work. Also with College Football being so huge in alot of States there is no room for any more teams.
3. The comment about "Green Bay with 100,000 has as much a chance" is rubbish. For one, Green Bay is ranked 8th interms of revenue it takes in. That does include the sharing of money but also merchandise and tickets etc. Its a very well supported team and because its owned totally by the fans and the city of Green Bay the money just continues to get pumped into the team. With just under 80,000 seats and a waiting list of 85,000 names they must be doing something right.
4. I laugh as well when the shirts say world champions. They dont play against the world so they cant really be considered WORLD champions. Though as someone else mentioned who else would they compete against?

So, what criteria must be met to be classed as "World Champions" then?

It's not America who are claiming to be the World Champions, it's the team that win the tournament at which (undoubtedly) the greatest players in the World play against each other. The players on that team have beaten the best teams in the World, so that does make them World Champions in my book. I bet there are more nationalities playing in the NFL, than there were at The Crucible in 1980, and yet your own Cliff Thorburn was rightly proclaimed "World Champion".

Surely the criteria is being the best of the best, from anywhere in the World. If you can name me a team that is not in the NFL, but could get anywhere close to the Green Bay Packers, then I'd be VERY surprised.
