well you travel all that way and just about to walk in and a steward comes up to you and says sorry youre not coming in as youre drunk. now i had had a few beers as many had i presume but i wasnt falling over shouting or anything. spoke to the police who said decision been made. so we walked round the corner and into the home end (too pissed for the away end but not the home end?). at half time we said to a steward we were in the wrong end , he took us to the away end where me and my brother were chucked out by the same bloke.
im really pissed off about it to be honest, never been booted out of a game before . had all my details taken photo taken and all that bollocks

Well, just let me ask these questions;
Would you go to the theatre pissed up? Howabout a gig? The zoo?
Are there any public venues you think it's actually wrong to attend intoxicated?

I guess most of us ran/run the risk of getting refused entry for having a few 'sharpeners' before - but it's fecking RIDICULOUS when they don't apply the same rules to all (& particularly the home fans). Sounds like you were unlucky enough to get picked on by the token Hi-Vis Nazi last night. There but for the grace...

Pissed people are generally loud obnoxious aggressive C unts at football matches, except to themselves and their mates when they're hilarious and cool

Judging by the state of a few of 'em in the beer garden, I'd be suprised if they aren't still there in a comatosed heap on the floor!

I feel for you, seriously.
Stewards don't breathalyze anyone to get into grounds, but if you were visibly 'impaired' by alcohol then it's up to the discretion of the steward to challenge and question you.

There are a couple of our own fans that I'd define as alcoholic-looking, but all the time they behave well - they're not going to get challenged at all.

Sorry to say, but since you got attention for being visibly intoxicated - and you admit here you had been drinking - then I'm afraid you are putting yourself in the spotlight for a pedantic steward to officiate over.

Especially when travelling to away games, I can only advise limiting the drinking before the match - and saving it until afterwards to drown sorrows or celebrate.
Stating the obvious a bit, I know.

Imagining going to Hartlepool, Carlisle or Leeds and having a swift few before the game (not unfeasible after such a long journey), and getting refused entry to the ground! That's practically unthinkable.
If you booze after the match too, there's no way you can be driving away that evening.

It's one of those things that you have to be careful about and calculate the risks and ramifications.

When we took up our seat we were a bit dissappointed to be low and directly behind the goal. The stewards explain that we should take our seats until most of the crowd was in then they would have no problem with us moving.

The toilets at one end of the stand were to be closed, but once they saw the rush at half time to the other end they opened those toilets - all good stewarding.

The two Albion fans next to my wife were well pissed but also pretty well behaved, until we scored the second goal at which point they collapsed all over her. All good fun though.

And what is wrong with that? It's football, not a bloody library. This is exactly the kind of attitude that makes the atmosphere so shit at the withdean.

Did anyone see the steward pushing an Albion fan to the ground after Forster scored? I was at the game but didn't see the incident as I was at the back of the away end. However, I saw it on The Championship this morning. I taped the programme and have replayed the incident several times. Every time I see the incident, it looks worse. Forster and some Albion players came over to the fans to celebrate, an Albion fan at the front put out his arms as if he was about to hug Forster, and a steward leaned over and pushed him hard to the ground, an act that could have resulted in a serious injury. Several Albion fans close by remonstrated with the steward.

I plan to draw SUFC's attention to the incident (I will keep the recording in case they have mislaid theirs) and ask them what they intend to do with the steward.
