Newcastle are on the brink of signing Steve McManaman from Real Madrid, according to The People.

The paper says the Magpies have moved to the front of the queue to sign him ahead of Everton, Manchester City and Blackburn.

McManaman has indicated he wants to see out the final year of his Real contract but the European champions say they want to get rid of him.
