Thinking of visiting Brighton this weekend, 14/15th August 2021?
Travelodge West Street is £199.99 room only. Checking all the seafront hotels and minimum £400 for Saturday night.
Make a weekend of it, Friday to Monday is £430 room only at the Travelodge.
Quick Easyjet search brings up 3 night stays in the sun for under £600 including meals.

I tried to find somewhere half decent to stay down near the Dorset coast. Not much availability and what there was was stupidly expensive. Even a Holiday Inn Express on an industrial estate on the outskirts of Poole wanted over £250 a night room only.

We have now booked a cruise to nowhere - three nights with all food, soft drinks, tea and coffee included plus entertainment for about the same price as room only in a decent hotel.

Ironically, the only time I'm in a Wetherspoons that early is for breakfast at an airport, while going abroad.

Edit: Not sure that's actually ironic. Or that I care whether it is or not.
