I tend to sit in the home areas for away matches, except for sold out games when I'm forced to sit in the away end.

Don't like watching football matches behind the goals.

You didn't answer my question.

How is standing up "showing passion"?

You can sing and chant perfectly well sitting down.

If that's what you really think I feel sorry for you. Seriously.

But to answer the question, it isn't the standing up itself that is 'showing passion', it's passion that makes you stand up. And you can't sing 'perfectly well' sitting down as anybody with any knowledge of music will tell you (my daughter's a singing teacher). Next you'll be saying you can dance 'perfectly well' sitting down.

Law and Legislation my friend...................

Very true and it's a shame really, think english football is really missing that special buzz in the atmosphere you rarely see week-in-week-out.

Politics and football should never ever meet! It's horrific, let the FA sort it out ( ).

It's clear that there is no "Health and Safety" hazard about standing up in football games. The only downside is that your legs bloody hurt the next day holding your weight. What's wrong with standing up? It's not anti-social. It gets the crowd going and, most importantly, everyone enjoys the game without someone telling them to sit down.

I know there are some people that don't like this concept as their little ones won't be able to see/enjoy the game so maybe we get areas where you have to sit down (family stand)? That way we can still develop a brilliant atmosphere!

How is standing up at football match "showing passion"?

It's inconsiderate and selfish when people do it all the time.

At key moments, fair enough, but anyone who is standing up for more than about 5 minutes out of the 90 should be ejected imo.

Tell you what camel you're giving me the right hump!!!

When we purchased our Season tickets two years ago we were told the stewarding would be a lot more lenient in the North Stand toward people standing during the game.
I wasn't there last night but it seems people are getting ejected for standing these days.
It's a passionate game and emotions run high at times in any stand but that is the point of people going in the North Stand. If we are going to be thrown out for showing passion then it's a sad day for this club

7 people were ejected last night, the majority were for smuggling alcohol into the ground, and not all from the NS: source; Darren Balkham after the game. Only 3 ejected at the Leeds game, and 2 were Leeds, and we know that wouldn't have been for standing.

So who are these people getting ejected for persistantly standing in an all seater stadium? Or is it in fact the case that no-one is being ejected for standing, rather the few that are, are being ejected for being pissed up or generally objectionable?

You'd better tell that to Adele, Westlife or the countless other musicians who perform sitting down then.

The problem is the law, moaning about stewards enforcing the rules isn't going to change anything, but a campaign aimed at politicians to get this changed might however too many fans prefer to have a go at those doing their jobs rather than try to change the minds of the law makers so nothing will happen.

But you can do it quite well though, can't you?

Yeah, I knew somebody would miss the point and mention people, especially pianists, who perform sitting down (I've done so myself). But you sing better when you are standing up. Sorry.

I agree, standing up at football matches is anti social and worse than racism, thankfully we now have the ability to sort this situation out now...........find out where the bigots are sitting and text 07880 196442..............mention that they were making monkey chants too and they wont see the inside of a football ground for the rest of their life.

Standing scum, off our seats!

???????? I really hope this is a terrible attempt at a joke :wozza:

If it isn't, it's enough reason to abandon the hotline – the idea of some prick making up lies to abuse it and potentially ruin someone's life is unforgivable. God help us.

And it's a fact, Fergus, that is IS easier to sing standing up because you can get more air into your lungs and you can give your songs a lot more welly. But then I bought my ST on the back row, knowing that I could stand freely, unperturbed.

The problem is the inconsistency - Leeds the whole NS was allowed to stand for the whole game - Peterborough most of the NS were already sitting (the first 10-18 rows anyway) but the rest had to sit as well.

It depends on the atmosphere as to how it is stewarded as far as I can tell.

At Leeds we scored early, the north was buzzing and so they just let us stand for an exciting game.

The game last night was dreadful, and the north was far from buzzing despite some good efforts from the middle, so most people sat and therefore it was stewarded tighter.

Makes good sense to me that.

I must admit that the atmosphere does seem a lot better when the north are on their feet tho. I much prefer to stand but am in row S and to the side of the goal and therefore just on the cusp of the permanent standing area.

Or the "Get into em, f*** em up" that about 10 people seem to sing at every game.

So why didn't they do it at the Birmingham, Middlesborough and Ipswich games
