Darren Clarke will win by a country mile I am afraid. Sentimentality and all that

And the Europe Ryder cup team will win the team prize despite the achievments of Sussex CCC

Darren Clarke is a great story, but let's be clear about this - he's not even in the world's Top 20 golfers and has won f*** all.

The Ryder Cup team will, quite rightly, win the team category - I'd feel worse about this as a Sussex fan were it not for the fact that Mushy basically won us the league.

While I would tend to agree Truff, I'd probably put it a smidge above Gurning though.

On second thoughts maybe I wouldn't

Gurning is one of the two great ancient martial arts of northern England - the other of course being Ecky Thump.

By God I'm glad I'm a southerner...

I know what you're saying, but the award isn't ' the most successful sportsman award ' its personality and he showed fantastic guts/personality to play in the Ryder Cup and play bloody well.

Its a sad, but inspirational story and he should win.

Roger Bannister must have been some kind of arsehole to have missed out that year

???

I'd give it to Panesar, the cricketers did OK in the summer and he was the star of the show, or if you just wanted to be a bit more boring and focus on pure sporting achievement, Joe Calzaghe.
