What happened to "the customer is always right?" She is paying for a service, i.e. the cashier scanning her items, so why can't she talk on the phone whilst it is done? It's hardly a job which requires customer input...

because the customer is always right is by no means a truism, anyone who believes that to genuinely be so, or that its a solid business maxim, is an idiot.

just because you are paying someone or dealing with an employee of a company you are patronising, you can take leave of your manners and cease to treat people like human beings? thats a terrifying attitude.

the customer is not always right. its just something spouted by mugs, either buying or selling.

Simple manners. Somebody is doing something for you, it's only common courtesy to pay attention to them. Unfortunately common manners are missing from many people.
