Hopefully they will replace frankly SHIT Gatwick Express stock that is always breaking down and is quite frankly unfucking acceptable.

Indeed they do. £1.446 million each is a lot of money. Curiously, the deal with Siemens for the Thameslink stock comes out at only £1.167 million a carriage (almost 20 per cent cheaper). Are Siemens offering that big a discount for quantity? Has the government suddenly decided to favour British products over cheaper foreign imports? Or is the intention to continue to treat Thameslink passengers as second-class customers?

BBC News - Bombardier report: Credit rating

Not much use to us though:

The £188.8 million order will augment Southern’s existing fleet of Electrostars and allow Southern to lengthen trains on some of its busiest Metro routes into Victoria, including routes via Gipsy Hill, Norbury and Hackbridge at the end of 2013 .
This could possibly help locally - if Southern can return the stock that was nicked off the Seaford line to augment services in London. This would restore four coach trains where we now have three coach trains, without toilets.

Isn't Bombardier part owned by the Germans anyway?
Like every major manufacturer, it's a multinational. But the jobs are in Derby.

funny thing this was discussed in another thread. i had a thought though, if the Gatwck Express are so unreliable why do they not break down on the line to Eastbourne, where they run the LB service???

Siemans are SKINT,German Govt have 'signed it off'

you sure? i thought the reason Siemans won the deal was they were the only company that could afford the loans up front within the budget. or maybe thats it, German Gov subbed them, nothing like a bit of government subsidy to help a deal.

On another note. have the Germans won the contract as Eurostar do not have exclusive use of the Channel Tunnel in the next couple of years, and the German railway have already had trails.
