Not good. Unless we get at least 1 bowling point, it looks like we're going to drop one place in the table. And if Lancashire have a poor second innings, we could be in the relegation zone by the end of this game.

Bloody hell, how quickly did that Hoppo/Murray partnership score?!

Actually I'll work it out: 363 in 58.2 overs (which is 350 balls)

so 6.2 an over. for nearly 60 overs.

Durham should beat Warks which would put us above them with a draw.

You're right. We'd be level on points but we've won two games to their one - so we'd be above them

Those games with Warks and Yorks at Hove look ever more vital.

Unless it's been pointed out already, can I just make the point that Muzzer's haul yesterday was the sixth highest ever in the history of the County Championship.

I saw that this morning, got me thinking who the five in front of him are:
Brian Lara, Archie Maclaren and Graeme Hick are the three that are easy - who are the other two?

Neil Fairbrother?

Correct - 366 in 1990

I didn't know the answer when I asked that question this morning but I do now.

Anyone want to venture a stab at the other one?

Clue 1 - it wasn't the last century
Clue 2 - I was looking at a memorial to him the last time I was in south London

357not out by Robert Abel according totodays Argus

what is it about Somerset attacks conceding HUGE scores

County Championship history, placing Goodwin behind only Lara (Warwickshire v Durham, 1994), Archie MacLaren (424, Lancashire v Somerset, 1895), Graeme Hick (405 not out, Worcestershire v Somerset, 1988), Neil Fairbrother (366, Lancashire v Surrey, 1990) and Bobby Abel (357 not out, Surrey v Somerset, 1899).

MacLaren and Hick also made their runs at Taunton, which has witnessed the last three triple hundreds in Championship cricket, following Justin Langer's 315 against Middlesex in 2007 and James Hildreth's unbeaten 303 against Warwickshire earlier this summer.

Goodwin, who had a seasonal average of just 16.58 in first-class cricket going into this match, more than doubled his aggregate with yesterday's innings. His previous 19 knocks had realised just 282 runs.
