Or they should just allow one place in the competition for the winner which doesn't interfere with the country's set number of places?

i think thats the rule now, a country cant exceed its given allocation of places, so in the event of being Champions you lose one of the other spots (wouldnt go to 5th under any scenario)

Exactly, they should change it so every country has a set allocation, but they can exceed it by one if last year's winner was from their country.
Just my thoughts.

If Chelsea win it, it would surely prove that the EPL is the best in Europe, as they finished a whopping 25 points behind the league winners
