Skiing in BULGARIA

Any of you been? Despite having had a hotel in Sofia city centre booked for MONTHS, half of our group have now decided they want to go SKIING. We leave on FRIDAY.

Have searched extensively online for information, but there's not a lot about. I'd really like to know the following:

Can you book daily lift passes/equipment hire?
How much it is likely to cost.

Need to know pretty quickly as we currently have two hotels booked and need to cancel one of them before Wednesday. :jester:

Any help would be muchly appreciated. :)

Have been there skiing a few times although not for a few years.

Everything was very cheap compared to alpine resorts although a little backward. Things did improve on our late visits.

According to Snow reports, ski holidays, ski resort news info neither Borovets or Pamporovo (the two major resorts) currently have any snow!!!

Just make sure you keep your nose clean as you may end up in prison like the liverpool fan who ended up in there for a crime he did not comit and now is back in a uk prison awaiting his appeal tomorrow.

Skiied in Pamporovo. At Christmas that year it was just about the only place in Europe with decent snow. By the time we got there in Feb/March, it was about the only place in Europe without decent snow. The whole resort had to pack onto about 200 metres of snow at the top of the mountain.

I've been to Borovets a couple of times.

Basically if you've got real skiing snobs in the party, forget it. The skiing is limited at best.

But if you're up for a cheap and cheerful version of the holiday, where the drink is a lot better than the food (goats cheese with everything), then it could be your bag.

Sofia, on the other hand, is superb with some great clubs. Had an amazing all-nighter there after a mate's wedding.

I have as well although it was about 20 years ago, the ski lifts were very scary and every car was a Lada, the waiter at the hotel carried a revolver.

Went to Borovets, you will have done it all in two days tops, its tiny, but its a good atmosphere no horrible French people pushing in, gear snobs or attitude, snowboarders thin on the ground too, unlike the gypsys who are funny and entertainment value in themselves.

Drink is piss cheap and the food is f***ing dire but it is Eastern Europe and that is the general rule anyway.

The lifts are ancient and they buy them when the French or Swiss cannot get them safety certificated any more. One set collapsed while we were there. Just think of the cheap beer though and dont dwell on those things.

If you have skiied ANYWHERE before then don't go it is SHIT !!! If you have never skiied before it might be ok once. They are not renowned for good snow but they do have lots of fit and cheap hookers, so its not all bad !!
