INJURY NEWS ON SHARP AND HAYTER
Posted on: Mon 08 Aug 2011

Rovers striker Billy Sharp has been diagnosed with ankle ligament damage after his scan this morning.

Billy will see a specialist tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2.30pm to assess the level of damage and determine the course of treatment needed.

Physiotherapist John Dickens said "We will know better the state of play tomorrow after the specialist has examined him, but I am confident he will not need surgery. These are important ligaments though and take time to heal."

Fellow striker James Hayter who also was stretchered off at Brighton, has recovered slightly since Saturday. Hayter suffered a knee injury after an attempt on goal.

"James knee was improving over the weekend and I will assess him today. He has a scan booked in for Tuesday if he needs it" said Dickens.

Not good news for Donny, but it's a far cry from the 'leg broken in 3 places' bollox that was being bandied about. That said, ankle ligaments can be right buggers to heal...

Hang on? I thought England's World Cup talisman Sharp had been permanently consigned to a wheelchair after the worst tackle in football ever on Saturday.

Is his middle name Lazarus?

True enough and I feel sorry for Doncaster, but the abuse that has been dealt out to Dunk, is shocking. Ankle ligaments can be damaged simply by falling the wrong way.

I'm very pleased that it sounds a little bit less bleak for them today.

Hope they have a good season - we don't want Palace escaping relegation because of other peoples' bad luck.

I completely agree about the stick young Lewis Dunk has received (unsurprisingly). It's been nothing short of f***ing shameful.

Did like the way his leg was as good as broken in half by some reports.

I am glad that is isn't as bad as some feared and I hope he makes a quick recovery.

I also hope that those Doncaster morons giving Dunk grief on Twitter take a long hard look at what an excuse of a human being they are, nothing but bullies. Some of the vitriol directed at him was disgusting.

Glad it's not as serious as first thought. Looks like Hayter will be ok, Sharp could be out for a while but not all season.

Both injuries were nasty and accidental. I've got a lot of time for Doncaster and I hope they get back soon as they do seem to have a lot of injuries going into the season. Gus puts a lot of store in our fitness specialists - perhaps Doncaster should do the same.
I hope that Dunk doesn't dwell on this too much - he looks like he'll make a good defender for us.

I'm sorry that Dunk is getting abuse but it's NOT from all quarters , shit happens and ligaments are generally far harder to sort than straight breaks. Personally I would ''ban'' all players from using twitter directly with supporters and it would stop this type of crap altogether.
There hasn't been one statement from our club that I've read that mentioned 3 breaks to Sharp's leg straight after or since the game, Chinese whispers that's all and they can't be ever trusted.
SO'D yep the same man that sent our players out to destroy yours apparently, only ever stated that Dunk in his view should have received a yellow. It doesn't seem like the same man does it !
Had the same happened to CMS or KLL, there would have been many a hissy fit on here too no doubt.
