Albion are trying to make four permanent signings to bolster their inexperienced and injury-hit squad before the transfer window shuts at midnight on Wednesday.
Assistant manager Dean White is hoping for a hectic finale to January after the Seagulls completed the capture yesterday of 20-year-old French utility player Zoumana Bakayogo on loan from Millwall for the rest of the season.
Albion, at home to Port Vale today, are still too close to the League One relegation zone for comfort and the pressure is mounting on chairman Dick Knight to close deals with the transfer clock ticking.
White said: "There are several targets we have gone for and we are still waiting. We have gone for some experienced players, we are just waiting to find out if they are going to come.
"We have got a list of permanent signings, not loan players, that we have been pursuing for the past month.
"The list has changed a little bit but we've still got back-up players we are going for. We did a lot of homework before the window opened.
"If we get what we want there will be four. Things get in the way and other clubs get in the way but these players haven't gone anywhere else.
"We've got a very young squad, a lot of them in their first season, and they have done exceptionally well but we need to help them through this next period."
The plan is to strengthen in all areas of the pitch, particularly the strike force.
White said: "No disrespect to the players up front but they are young lads learning their trade.
"They are not coming on for 20 minutes here and there, or playing a couple of games and then being taken out, which is what normally happens at pro clubs.
"They need nurturing and we are not able to do that at the moment, because we are not able to replace them.
"We need strengthening, players to help the lads that are here now. We know that, everyone is aware of that and we are doing everything in our power to bring players in, but there is only so much you can do. Somewhere along the line it has to happen."
Looks like the pressure is on Dick Knight to approve and buy all of these players... will be interesting to see how many we get if any, or all.
