Scarface and GTA Vice City

I've just watched Scarface again for the first time in years after buying the special edition on DVD. What an absolutely TOP film...possibly Pacino's finest hour (or 2 and 3/4 hours to be precise). I love the classic gangster epics - Goodfellas, Casino, Godfather, and Scarface is definately right up there with them.

What I didn't realise till now though was that the wonderful GTA Vice City is clearly completely based on this film. 1983 Miami, the look of it, the music, the suits, the Cubans, the cars...even the mansion interior is clearly doffing its cap at this Brian de Palma masterpiece. I feel like playing it now, but its a bit too late...Saddo that I am, I'm going to play Vice City tomorrow and pretend to be Tony Montana.

"Yoh aaalll a bonch af facking assholes"

"Sey hello to ma leetle frien' "

Marvellous :clap2:

Dunno where you get 1987 from - it doesn't seem to be any specific year, although the soundtrack is clearly early 1980's...earlier than 87' anyway.

Its 1987. Can't remember where I read that, but a few things point to it, including mobile phones (didn't exist in handheld form till 1985 or so).

However, Rockstar did specify it was 1987.

You are right though, the game is very much modelled around Scarface. Nothing beats cruising down the strip packing a piece singing "she's on fire, fire, fire..."

Except that the new GTA is out today and I've already bought my copy (at 6am, how keen am I?). It's absolutely enormous, I cannot believe how cool it is. Highlights include Fools Gold on the soundtrack and Samuel L Jackson voicing a character.

Legendary.

Buy it now

It says it on the cut scene at the very start of the game, when they are in Liberty City and decide to send him down to Vice City.

Fair enough then - I've not seen that cut scene at the start for donkeys so forgot any references to '87. All the songs on the radio seem to be from the 83-84 era at the latest though.

I think you're right though. Scarface is one of a few films that Vice City is based on.

Online games are great! having no friends, as Saxon so correctly puts it, means I can join up with like minded geeks and have hours of FUN blasting away with rocket launchers & shock rifles in UT2004, sit perched atop a building picking out unsuspecting Terrorists in Counter Strike (well thats coming soon actually), do a backheel to Owen in the box and watch him unleash a powerful slice into the bottom corner in PES4 (again coming soon)...online gaming opens up a whole new world and it keeps me away from the expensive pubs and stops me from being bored! I LOVE IT :clap2:

Why don't you just play one player and pretend the computer is one of your internet special friends??

I do when playing a BOTmatch, if I'm downloading something then I'd get a low ping on the server so playing BOTmatch means I can still play against decent opponents and RUN them all over the shop!

A brave new world of Virtual Friendship, where you can forge long and meaningful relationships by shooting a man in Belgium sitting alone in his underpants...
