If it finished after 24 minutes.

Anyway, where is US? Still busy talking about offset mortgages on the other thread no doubt.

Especially the lack of British soldiers in the Second World War.

Yes they were, then the film became very predictable.

I agree. The oopening sequence was hard hitting and almost breathtaking - the first time - but the rest of the 'movie' limps on with a fairly predictable tale. I am amazed they didn't come across a single Brit/Australian etc in the film. Were we only figthing in Walmington-on-Sea?

I assume that is because it was specifically about an American unit and the landings at Omaha Beach were actually by American Divisions

IMO The blood, guts and explosions do not compensate for the typical Spielberg factual accuracy for oversentiment exchange.

SEEN. Not many play as fast and loose with history and get away with it.

Admittedly it has its moments visually, but on the whole it's an utter shitfest.

Dave your fact seems to have gone over the heads of some  :lolol:

Saving Private Ryan 8.7

The beach landings are the greatest ever 25 minutes of filming in the history of cinema. FACT

To be fair, that tripey follow-up series (Brothers?) had one British soldier in it. And, for authenticity's sake, he spoke with an accent modelled on Dick van Dyke's in Mary Poppins. He was ACE.

I can't believe some of the replies in this thread, none of us where there or even born, so we wouldn't of known what it was like for the US on Omaha Beach that day.

I think it is more the film than the actual landings Kev

They travelled through a large part of France and there was not even a reference to the British or any other nation that took part in the war. If you are trying to make a film that is masquerading as a factual piece of work, then inclusion would not hurt in the slightest.
