This from a AFC fan in my office, for what it's worth, a season ticket holder and knows what he's talking about.

if you'd asked me a year ago I'd have laughed in your face, but that was when he was playing as an attacking midfielder. this year he's been our best player by far, but he's played in the holding role - very good on the ball, wins a lot of it too, spreads play very well, a good 'engine' as they say. scored a few too. I think he was voted player of the season by our fans anyway, he got my vote. he receives the ball well under pressure and uses it well, which is pretty vital to our way of playing (pass it out from the back etc).

he is quite small though, and not the quickest. a good player though

I don't think we should be going for him.

1. He's a league 2 player (not doubting his potential) but we need a Championship experienced midfielder.

2. We need a more physical midfielder.

3. 5'8, probably a similar type to Liam Bridcutt and if so then why release Navarro?

4. He may not even make the step up.

1. Elliot Bennett mad a similar sized leap to Norwich.
Seamus Coleman came from a League Of Ireland team to the Premiership.
Norwich took a chance on Grant Holt.
Your argument based on assumption has no validity, because you can't back it up. The scouting team will have watched him several times, if they believe hes good enough they'll recommend we buy, if not they won't.

2. Why do we? we play a fluid passing game. We want players who can pass the ball not wrestle someone off it!

3. Xavi is 5'7, this is trite and pointless argument, if we play football on the floor why do all our players need to be over 6'0?
Nathan Dyer, Leon Britton, Scott Sinclair and Wayne Routledge aren't giants, they do alright!
Gus believes Navarro has hit his peak and is 31, while Nav's has had a great season Gus (I'm guessing) feels we need a younger player that will grow in to the role.

4. He MAY not. So you admit there is a chance he may make the step up?

I must admit I thought we were going after experienced Prem / Champ players... that's what Gus said, wasn't it? Still, I would welcome 1/2 promising players from L1/2 as well...

Bridcutt was on loan at Stockport wasn't he? Then after being released by Chelsea they didn't offer him a deal - obviously they didn't rate him! Yet just two seasons later people on here are worried about him being Premirship bound!

Good job someone told Liverpool not to look at 4th division Chester City's Ian Rush eh?

Just imagine if they'd signed him - they'd have been relegated. :dunce:

I watched Ian Rush play for Chester against Shrewsbury he stood head and shoulders over all of the players even at his age.
I also watched a very young Andy Rollins play for Norwich city and he was outstanding that day.
and what about Peter Ward he was one of those little gems.
Sammy Moore might just be the same

"we should be aiming for players of a higher standard"

What a ridiculous , non-expansive mindset this is.

You do realise we need MORE than 11 players? Some would call it a SQUAD. Not every signing is going to be the key player to fire us to glory!

I trust the scouts and the guys who have actually SEEN this guy kick a football rather than someone who bases their judgement on "he is a bit small" and "he didn't play in the championship".
