Sir Alex Ferguson claimed Manchester United paid the price for the penalty they were awarded against Arsenal.
Referee Graham Poll denied United two penalty appeals as they were shut out by City in the Manchester derby.

Ferguson said: "After what happened against Arsenal, we're going to be penalised for that.

"No way was the referee going to give us a penalty today, somebody would have needed to have been hit with an axe for us to get one."

United had a strike force of Smith (£8 mill), Saha (£12 mill), Rooney (£25 mill) and Ronaldo (£13 mill), and he is still clutching at straws arguing for a dodgy penalty. Wonder what he would make of a strike force of Knight, Currie and Piercey?

I thought both decisions would have been harsh if a penalty had been awarded.

Dunne was excellent for City today.

Flood was excellent too, can we borrow him?

What does he expect? He'll have watched the Arsenal game again and seen that Rooney conned him for the penalty so he's naturally going to be very, very wary about giving them one next time. Serves him right for teaching his players to be a bunch of whinging, diving kuntz.

Fantastic to see that those two moaning old twats Fergie and Wenger are both going to be stitched up by Chelsea who have just got on and concentrated on their football, you don't see Mourinho moaning and throwing his dummy out over Mutu. Despite all their money, the way they've applied themselves this year it will be fantastic to see Chelsea win the league.

The way Giggs went down was disgraceful. He dived and looked at the ref on his way down as if to bat his eyelids at him.

I hate Man Utd.

No way! Anyway, the way Chelsea treated Mutu was a disgrace. Arsenal supportred Adams and Merson with the problems they had. Chelsea should have done the same for Mutu. I'd love it if he signed for Arsenal and scored a hat-trick against them. I really HATE Chelsea.

Quote: " Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association, reiterated his belief that Chelsea had a "hidden agenda" against Mutu. He questioned whether Mutu's actions were enough to warrant the sack.

"We are not talking about a player who wanted to cheat or take an advantage, we are talking about a player who has a problem which is self damaging. It is a problem for sport in general; it is a problem for society in general," said Taylor.

"Has he broken his contract? It depends on the view you take. If you want to be particularly finicky, there are a million reasons why people could be sacked.

"They target-tested him. We feel there was a hidden agenda. They wanted him out. It was the same with Mark Bosnich.

"You remember the problems at Arsenal with Tony Adams and Paul Merson and they took a different approach which was much more constructive and positive.

"The lad has been open and honest with them and in turn they have shown him the door and then said 'we don't want you to get another club unless we can get the compensation back that we paid for you'.

"It is a little disingenuous."

I think thats the point. Arsenal wanted to keep the players. Chelsea saw this as an easy opportunity to chuck him overboard without repurcussions.

Yes. Your single yawning smiley posts are quite boring. This is a football discussion on a football message board. The title of the thread gives away the content so why bother opening it knowing that you're going to find it boring and posting a pointless smiley? Your intelligent contribution to the discussion is well appreciated.

And to think that those four players transfer fees would build Falmer and left 10m to invest on players.

Shows the vast expanse between two teams only 34 places apart.

The way they treated their manager last season? Keeping the guy guessing, hanging it over his head that he'd get the boot, whilst still guiding them to second place despite it all he got shown the door unceremoniously and without a "thanks but sorry to let you go" ??

Nope, can't share that sentiment re Chelsea mate.

Back to the thread intent; Ferguson has a few psychelogical problems, to put it mildly. Happily, it does look as if his mental behaviour won't win his side the league DESPITE having bought Smith, Saha, Rooney and Ronaldo along with van Nistelrooy, Ferdinand and etc. The reds are fading!

And not forgetting they wanted to sue Mutu for loss of potential future transfer fees.

Was suprised to see Man U get two penalties turned down and have a man sent off (fully desrved it) and they were AT HOME! Quite rare!

Happy as I am to see Wenger and (especially) Ferguson get what they deserve, your view of Mourinho is very odd. What was that which he said earlier in the season, complaining at teams for playing defensively and having the temerity to take points off his team? The man's an arsehole - certainly worse than Wenger - who doesn't deserve your praise.
