He was before my time, but my parents both spoke in glowing terms about his batting ability. He continued to be involved in Sussex and was president of the club until recently.

He deserves remembering for his ability to get up Thatcher's nose too.

He was truly a memorable human being and will be much missed.

May he rest in peace.

I don't think there's any sort of lasting memorial to David Sheppard at the county ground, is there? If not, I'd like to know why... especially when there is a STAND named after Arthur Gilligan, who was allegedly a Nazi, and a committee room named after Ted Dexter, who was the worst chairman of selectors England has ever had.

Not to mention the numerous connections between Sussex and various dodgy rebel tours.

Go on, SCCC, I dare you to put up a statue of someone vaguely left-wing.

He was also a slip fielder and after one too many chances spilled off the bowling of one F Trueman was advised by the bowler to put his hands togther when the ball came to him "like you do when you say your prayers".
