Yes mate, that sounds good. I will text you on the day. I'm not going Saturday, off up to Oldham. Maheta has been overseeing the set up of our love nest and I have just been down here sorting out the sale of our Burgess Hill pad.

Sound lek you have a very moist weekend in store then, why I'm almost jealous. I on the other hand have been enlisted into a Cowboys and Indians birthday party on Saturday, hope there are some delightful squaws

Just back, Revell is the best player we have had for years, as on overall player from what i saw. Everyone played well, Reid and Carpenter had a couple of dodgy moments. Not many there, dodgy decision for sending off too, but we held on well. Hard to compare though as they probably are the worst team in the division.

One was a good idea but turned out to be awful, Stokes drove it to Cox outside area and then they went clean through!

Our centre backs looked solid though, and Henderson defending set pieces.

How did our set pieces look? Last season that was one of the biggest critisms I had was we never seemed to look dangerous from them

Hard to say - I didn't think we got many - the referee made sure they were mostly for Rotherham. However, Tony Stokes looks to have taken over as corner specialist and Dean Wilkins was definately instructing players through the free kicks from the touchline. Bob Booker certainly took a back seat & rarely came out of the dugout, I felt a bit sorry for him - he even ended up having to carry off all the water bottles (& his clipboard) at the end.

A good win but Rotherham were so poor it was quite amusing and I can't see them getting off the bottom all season, never mind out of the relegation zone. Particular mentions to their midget number 3 who was dreadful and the Doug Loft lookalike who came on and scooped over from half a yard. But we did well to hold on with 10 men.

Revell worked his socks off and showed quality. He couldn't have wished for a better start. Mayo and Lynch were both rocks at the back. Partridge didn't get a sniff out of Mayo and only got involved in the game when Rovrum switched him to the opposite wing.

An encouraging start.

Just back from the game. We thoroughly deserved to win but let's not get carried away, Rotherham looked a poor side.
Revell might have/should have scored after just three minutes and Hammond missed another sitter from a great cross by Cox. That said, there are lots of positives: we played some decent football; have a centre forward who will score goals and in Joel Lynch have a superb prospect in central defence - my man of the match. I'm worried about Carpenter who gave the ball away far too much and Mayo's lack of pace was obviously exposed again at times. But credit to the team and to MM who played little Dean Cox, who was excellent until the sending off, and showed CKR that he's not the only striker we've got.
My ratings - Henderson 6, Reid 6, El Abd 7, Lynch 8, Mayo 6, Hart 6, Carpenter 5, Hammond 6, Cox 7, Revell 8, Stokes 6.
I'd say we had about 600- 700 there.
Bring on Gillingham!

Hammonds miss was bad even by last seasons standards. I still have no clue how he managed to put it wide.
I know - I had already started to celebrate. If he can start converting those chances he'll be a VERY good player. Finger's x'd.

Just got back - A solid enough performance. Cox did ok up to the ridiculous sending off (but then we all know the rules), Revell seemed pretty good, but I still would like a target man which MM is hopefully still after.

The one player who looked below par was Chippy - very poor IMOP.

Pleasing start but Rotherham were poor and created very little. Come next week when 3 games are under our belts it should be easier to judge. I'm off to the pub.

I agree totally with Sneaky's ratings, Lynch looked very good in the centre of defence and was also my man of the match. Revell had a good game up front and looked very promising, holding the ball well and actually having some shots, something that didn't happen too much last season.

Cox also looked good, sending in some great crosses until his unfortunate sending off. Coxy also inspired the best song of the day 'we've got tiny Cox', the atmosphere was a bit muted today though overall. Michael Keane got some stick after his antics at the Grimsby game a couple of seasons ago but that was about it. I'd estimate around 600 Albion there too.

Paddy Kenny, Phil Jagiekla, Paul Ifill, Neil Shipperley, Michael Tonge, Rob Hulse, Danny Webber.......among the players for Premiership Sheffield Utd who could not beat Rotherham at Millmoor 7 days ago.

We all know that Rotherham are a bottom half team but how bad they are this season, that remains to be seen. Fact is we defended superbly for most of the game, and made them look ordinary.

The positive I take for this is that our players are now playing again at a level in which they are comfortable, unlike last year when week in, week out we were playing teams with far superior technique and ability. Rotherham compared to all those Championship teams certainly are poor but how poor in this league, let's see.

I would agree that this one result doesn't change things that much for us, we are still probably a midtable side unless we strengthen up front. Having to play an honest workhorse like OGH there frankly underlines our difficulties :(

Having said that, I would make 4 simple points:

1 - it is claimed that McGhee is a poor signer of players. Getting a player of the nuisance value of Alex Revell for tuppence is a new argument against that, quite clearly. Stokes was also useful.

2 - it is claimed that McGhee doesn't develop young players. Our two best players on the pitch today were Lynch and Cox. Lynch was absolutely imperious today. And the selection of Cox (who on NSC was arguing for that?) was a masterstroke, similar to McGhee's early introduction of Virgo and Harding as team regulars in McGhee's first few months here.

3 - it is claimed that McGhee can't create team spirit. Well, down to 10 men thanks to a ridiculously offficious piece of refereeing, what you saw was the team throw their bodies around the pitch to neutralise the weight of possession that Rotherham had in the second half. Teams with no spirit don't do that.

4 - I've forgotten this one but it probably involves calling Les Biehn a **** or something :drink: :drink: :drink:

Like I said before the season began, if we're going to set our standards high then we need to take chances like those, to many times last season Hammond missed chances like that and it could of today proved costly again. Thank god it didn't.
