Sounds pretty wild out there -

Although seeing the reports of the riots in Buenos Aires following the relegation of River Plate from the Argentine Clasaura for the first time in their history is chilling enough, seeing it unfurl live is horrifying. Tanks with water cannons are parading the streets, members of the public are running about in panic and there's rather too much fire around for anyone's liking.

But the worst part of watching is seeing the ambulances and stretchers carrying injured police officers from the front lines. According to reports, there are at least five police officers suffering serious injuries and many more who are less badly hurt. The most appalling incident so far has been the alleged torching of a police car by rioters while said vehicle was still occupied:

Belgrano fans are still trapped in the Estadio Monumental, and it's still not clear if there'll be any safe way of extracting them within any reasonable timescale. Meanwhile, journalists are being assualted, TV vans are being destroyed, and something barely short of a pitched battle is being fought on the streets. This can't clear up fast enough.

Sounds like a typical night in Luton or Bradford

SHAMEFUL! They are now going to ensure that River endure just a single season out of the top flight in a move that also protects Boca from the drop should the forthcoming season be disastrous!!

Jul 25. AFA decided to change the structure of the tournaments in 2012/13 season. They want to join First A (first division) and National B (second division) in one big division of 38 or 40 teams. This means: a) River will be back in First Division with the only effort of not being relegated again. b) Relegations in First A in season 2011/12 are eliminated so Boca, San Lorenzo and Racing don't have any risk. c) More teams from the provinces will play in First Division and we will have a "federal" tournament and more votes for Grondona's re-election.

This structure has to be approved in the Executive Committee Meeting on October 18. In this same Meeting, they will choose the AFA president for four more years. Season 2011/12 will start without knowing if the new format will be accepted.
