Only just seen, very sad news. Sid Waddell brought darts to life for millions, and also a great bloke.
Very privileged to have interviewed him a couple of years ago, wasn't easy as basically he was so mega intelligent and well read it kept going off at bizarre tangent all over place. An intimidating intellect, but did the ordinary bloke thing alongside classical Oxbridge scholar, pretty rare.
First time I met him we both happened to be reading same book, the Stephen King one about the Boston Red Sox (which is brilliant).
RIP Sid.

He also gave the world Jossy's Giants (football's just a brand of science).

RIP Sid.

Gutted. Arguably the most charismatic commentator of all-time. He was one of my five 'Dream Dinner Party guests' too. His partnership with Dave Lanning on the darts was under-rated, Lanning being the perfect foil for Sid.

Legendary commentator has passed away aged 72.

Put so much excitement into the sport and quite a character as well

Darts will miss his enthusiasm and knowledge

He was one of the reasons for watching darts. His enthusiasm was amazing and I loved his almost poetic commentary. RIP Sid Waddell.
