I met him a few times as he lived next door to my best man in Crawley. Lovely chap. As everyone says, far too young to die. That wonderful Headingly 1981 innings will live long in the memory. RIP

Probably of no comfort at this time to his friends and family but to be someone that nearly all cricket fans aged from 40ish onwards would look back too as a player that was instrumental in unarguably one of the greatest and most exciting moments in English cricket is something that all close to him can be justifiably be very very proud of..

I got his autograph in '86 at Hove, I seem to recall. One of the first players I ever spoke to. Very sad.

Sorry if I missed a similar thread

RIP to Steve Jobs without question.
But when the world was smaller and we talked to each other more, this man was part of a legend that bears anothers name. Not only his fantastic partnership with Botham, but a catch in the deep that probably equaled that.


A summer to remember a man not to forget.
