The first game of football I can really remember watching on TV was the 1968 European Cup Final. I was 8 years old and completely captivated by George Best and the glamour and total awe in which people held him.

SAME HERE

After seeing that game I begged my dad to take me to a proper
That is fair enough but for the time being I want to remember him as the bloke who was the best player EVER to play in this country.

I ASSUME YOU ARE EXCLUDING PELE IN 1966 AND EUSEBIO WHO ALSO PLAYED IN THE ABOVE MATCH AT WEMBLEY

ANOTHER ONE MINITE TRIBUTE:ohmy:

No

But then that's my opinion

He lived his life the way he wanted and did what he wanted when he wanted. How many people can say that?

He had a lager drink, he had a cider drink, he sang the songs that reminded us of the good times he sang the songs that reminded us of the BEST times.

RIP George Legend Best

Hotel porter upon wlaking into Best's room after a heavy night with empty champagne bottles on the floor, thousands of pounds on the bed from a casino win the night before and a miss world in his bed

" Where did it all go wrong George "

Whatever his miscomings were and we are not all saints remember, it is a sad loss. An excellent footballer who gave millions of people joy wherever he played.

George Best one man that can be truely said to be a legend.

I'm sure he's not the only alcoholic who had a second chance and ****** it up, and he won't be the last.
He entertained lots of people and at least now the media will dwell on his achievements rather than his failings.

Personally I have no interest in the bloke but every bloody Radio station keeps harping on about it.... I expect Tonights TV will be full of "homages to the great man".

The fact that he never killed anyone is of pure chance. How many convictions for drink driving?

Or what about wife beating?

My heart goes out the the families of those who were not lucky enough to get a donor liver and would have made better use of it.

Thanks for that, O Perfect One.

One day, on the back streets of Belfast,
A young man was born too soon,
For had he been born today, boys,
This game would know no gloom.

For he stood only 5 ft 8 inches,
He weighed only eight stone,
By day he played with his friends there,
By night he played on his own.

Then early one morning a letter,
Arrived in the post at his home.
"Will your son please board the ferry,
From Ireland to England alone".

So a young lad arrived at Old Trafford,
Prepared to give his all,
But England's a long way from Belfast,
And the Emerald Isle did call.

It took all of Matt Busby's persuasion,
To make him come back for the Test,
For he knew that he'd found a genius,
Who was so far ahead of the rest.

He could run at the speed of a greyhound,
Turn on a sixpence and shoot,
Dribble his way through a minefield,
While still only wearing one boot.

His playing brought crowds in their thousands,
His antics attacks from the press,
But they still had to bow down in tribute,
And acknowledge true genius George Best.

Shoreham of course
Too young to remember his playing days, but from what I have seen from video footage he was a great footballer.
Silly idiot to take to the drink though.

RIP George

I'm sorry if I offended anyone in an earlier post. I did forget to mention that I sympathise with his family. Its not nice losing a loved one and I think we can all relate to that in some way. But it will not change by views of HIM as a person. George Best the footballer I respect, George Best the person I do not. I'm sorry.

RIP George.

Take no notice of all those slagging you off on this thread. They know not what they are doing.

There is a minutes silence across the land tomorrow to honour the George. However, I like the idea Celtic are doing instead

"Scottish Premier League side Celtic will stage a minute's applause in tribute to Best before their game with Dunfermline on Saturday. "

For me this celebrates someones life in a more fitting way than standing in silence IMHO
