ive clapped many a good and popular player returning, the classic being the great reception danny wilson got from the north stand after barry lloyd and hois board gave him to shef wednesday.. "danny whats the score as we lost 4-0 then barry barry whats the score". he came to the north stand to clap us before saluting the away end pakd with wenesday. Lost 4-0 packd goldstone (even the police laughed when they announced the official crowd) and lost 4-0. great night tho

Why would he get any sort of reception, I'd imagine complete indifference is the order of the day.

Outstanding former players, or anyone who has once relegated Crystal Palace with a last minute goal, should be applauded by those who feel it appropriate, crap former players, lazy former players, and the likes of Scott McGleish should be booed.

The million and one other rejects out there who have neither raised our hackles nor got us singing their praises are just like every other lower league journeyman trundler, deserving neither ridicule nor adulation.

Richards is no different, he's just another mediocre Walsall player. I might laugh at him if he arses up, but other than that? Meh.

I actually think that Richards, like most "lower league journeymen" who have represented us, he did ok for us. He wasn't special, as everyone has said. But he wasn't a disgrace in the shirt and in my opinion, he should be applauded on his return because we should have respect for players who have contributed something to our club. But it won't happen, mainly because we're very angry as a group of fans and if we can boo, I think it's fair to say the majority will. Which is a shame, but that's the reality of Brighton fans. Cynical and angry, I love our fans.

I would hope to see him get a standing ovation. He gets unbelievable grief from some on here who couldn't see that he was a decent player that gave his all.

I'll be a tad embarrassed if he doesn't get a warm round of applause at least as I hope Chris Hutchings does (who can forget THAT goal he scored against Gillingham in the cup at The Goldstone)

On the subject of Chris Hutchings, indulge me for a moment and allow me to relate how he was, in my mind at least, responsible for one of the most disappointing moments in my Albion-supporting life.

When I was about nine, I was a Junior Seagull, and eagerly awaited the home game each season where my birthday would be listed in the programme alongside the other Junior Seagulls with birthdays around the same time. Being a massive Danny Wilson fan (naturally) I was obviously hoping the aforementioned special programme would feature him on the front cover, or at least maybe Dean Saunders, allowing me to keep and treasure it forever. These things matter when you're a star-struck young football fan.

But no. I turn up at the Goldstone that cold winter afternoon to find the blonde spiky mullet, porn-movie tache and microscopically small shorts of Chris Hutchings adorning the front page. No nine-going-on-ten year old wants to see that, do they?

To this day I have never forgiven him, though I think I can see now a few years have passed that it wasn't entirely Chris's fault

My birthday was in the programme for the Chester City match on the 87/88 season or was it 86/87. The one where we got promoted anyway.

Can't for the life of me think who was on the front cover though!! I think I'll have a look when I get home.
