Heard it this morning 9.45am on Radio 4.
Quite amusing with his mimicking of the old folk using their bus passes.

It's still the 700! Brighton to Portsmouth is operated by StageCoach. Not sure where they got 707 from!

Nerd Alert!! It used to be No 31 in the good old Southdown days. Was regarded as the premier bus route for Southdown

I rode it a couple of times from Goring to games when Southdown ran it as the 700 'Coastliner' in the mid 1970s. But I went back to the train because there were more interesting conversations and also you didn't have to walk up to the GG from the King Alfred.

Doesnt it take like 4 hours to get from Brighton to Portsmouth ? Who in their right mind would use it for the entire journey when there is a train which takes about an hour and 30 minutes !!!!

My wife is from Winchester, and we met at college in Liverpool. When we were back at our respective family homes during the summer holidays, (and I was desperately POOR) I used to catch this bus to Portsmouth, and then another one onwards. 70 mile journey took about 7 hours. It was a bloody NIGHTMARE.
