So many people, including myself, slag off the concept on a manufactured band, but I'm pretty sure they were one of the first.

They were brought together for a fictional television series, not as band.

Problem was the songs were so good, there was public pressure into them becoming a "real band" of sorts.

They had bloody good writers though, Neil Diamond for one.

Another bit of my childhood gone, loved The Monkees and couldn't wait to get home from school to see their show. Remember saving up money from my paper round to by this single.
