Sparrow took a good penalty against Woking in the cup and is experienced so perhaps he should have stepped up. Mind you after the number we missed last season Gus did say he was going to sign a specialist dead ball kicker and signed Harley so obviously he has faith in his ability with a dead ball.

As someone has pointed out,Harley is meant to be a good penalty taker and used to score them for exeter so he probably seemed the ideal candidate.Don't know what went wrong though.

Some of the problems are clearly of his own making.

(Saturday)
- he (if various people are correct) has the pitch watered five minutes before the kick-off then leaves the players wearing studs that cause them to fall over far more often than the opposition

(last night)

- With Barnes missing from the starting line-up, why weren't the team fully briefed on what to do if we got a penalty? Like: don't fanny about trying to be smart, just hit it hard so as to at least force the keeper to make a save and maybe snaffle something from any rebound
- Harley came out for the second half when he'd clearly had an absolute stinker of a first half

To be fair Harley did improve in the 2nd half

errrrrrrrr I was right behind their equaliser. A goal from the moment he hit it. Nothing casper could have done to stop that. Just a really good goal!

Really? While my view was anything but in line with it, it seemed to skip through him rather. I'll check out teh highlights, but it looked a sloppy one to concede to me.

Just watched the penalty on TV and it seemed that Harley mishit or slipped for the penalty rather than be too casual, as the ball just trickled to the keeper.

Quite rightly Poyet should be angry with the players if they don't give 100% or fail to his implement tactics but even if we had won last night the underlying issues remain and they mainly rest with Poyet as he selects the team and tactics.

I believe a significant part of our loss of form is due to the manager and the selections he makes from the squad of players at his disposal. We show moments of brilliance but increasingly we are too easily exposed when our midfield is outgunned, overrun and / or the defence makes silly mistakes. Ankergren is too inconsistent - a good game against Hull but too easily beaten by three longer range shots at Ipswich and Millwall. It could be argued that these shots should have been closed down before getting a shooting chance but then Casper does not instil confidence on crosses.

Gus needs to look at his own performance and learn to make critical decisions at the right time, not wait for the opposition to take the initiative as we are then getting punished too easily then look like conceding two or three. This habit of losing decisive late goals

I am sure that Tony Bloom will allow Gus to bring in the right calibre of players who are at least able to compete at this level but that will not come cheaply. Vicente should be our playmaker but needs a top quality enforcer or two around him. Look at how Bowyer and Bullard bossed things allowing the those around them to play their game.

I am particularly disappointed that the majority of players signed in the close season are attacking midfielders and forwards yet we have lost our cutting edge up front. I feel sorry for CMS working his socks off but getting little support when we should be ripping teams apart. Hopefully Buckley and Hoskins will get a run when fully fit - if selected.

Lets be honest, Poyet has not been happy for a while now. Yet has done nothing to address the situation. I fear he is going to have a lot more unhappy days unless he sorts out one or two things that are glareingly obvious to all, like.

1. On the whole Casper is going to cost us more points than he wins us.
2. The team as a whole needs more experence at this level, maybe two players who have played a few hundred games at this level.
3. Stop playing Cms up front on his own, he has no hold up man with him to relive pressure on the midfield and defence.

Its no good keep moaning about how pissed off you are Gus, if you dont actually do f*** all to change it......oh and learn that sometimes, just sometimes, you get it wrong!!!

I think has a right to be unhappy.

1. we gift wrapped some unbelievable chances in the first half, that were inexplicably missed.
2. the penalty was a shocker.
3. for all our possession, Millwall had the better, clear-cut chances.
4. we threw away 2 points with some sloppy goal-keeping.
5. we made some poor decisions in the final third.

Millwall looked like relegation fodder, and were there for the taking, which we did not do. He has a right to be unhappy with that.

All this for me, although Casper did make a fantastic save when he pawed it from off of the post/top corner.

I still haven't found out why Vicente didn't travel last night. Anyone able to enlighten me please ?

Was that the incident where CMS was wide open, unmarked, in prime position to score and Nooney didn't show any awareness, didn't look around for options just kept his head down and ignored his team mate? If so, I think he might have been upset about Noone's hairstyle.

That would be the one.

An "identity" that either needs better players to execute it, or needs to change. We have been found out with our tippy tappy foreign football, being played by players who are not good enough to pull it off. We need some good old fashioned English (or Scottish in CMS's case) muscle in the team.

Chopper Harris? Good grief.
