The government wants telecomms companies to help pay for the repair of the potholes that opened up in the road during snowy freeze. The telecoms companies say they can't as it would then have pass on costs and charge subscribers more money. So lets get this right? whatever solution they come to WE will be paying for it. T'rific.

Uhm, the telecomms companies themselves, without passing costs on. They can flipping well afford it. Apparantley Murdoch is doing okay for himself.

So we pay road fund licence ( I know they don't use it towards the roads ! ) AND excessive tax on fuel and somehow it's the telecoms companies that have to pay for potholes ??? Am I missing something here ?

All costs get factored into the final end user price. Could be food, clothing, cars, or utilities.

That comment shows no appreciation of how businesses really run and suggests you believe tabloid headlines like '£NNNs a minute revenue made by Company X'.

For example if a company makes £1Billion in revenue, but has £999m in operating costs: does that make them rich because they make sales worth £1bn or are they just scraping by and unable to take on additional costs like flipping potholes without destroying a paltry profit margin.

Discuss.
