Postman sues for too heavy packages Dec 21 2003
A university lecturer is being sued by a postman - for clogging up his pillar box!
Alan Pugh, 53, claims his back was injured lugging around a sackful of journals posted by academic George Chryssides and he has lost £286 in wages while off sick.
Now Mr Chryssides, a religious studies lecturer at Wolverhampton University, has received letters from Mr Pugh’s lawyers accusing him of negligence.
The bemused academic says he posted around 230 letters containing academic journals into a pillar box on the university campus on November 13 last year.
“I was astounded,” said Mr Chryssides who lives in Wolver-hampton.
“It’s absolutely absurd. I’ve had four lawyers’ letters about this, the first asking if I was insured? I couldn’t believe it.”
A Royal Mail spokesman said there was no limit on the number of items people could post in the same box.
