I travel this line daily and there was a warning given today that there will be enginerring works this weekend. Fine says you, the game is the week after, but these 'works' have a habit of overruning and may therefore be completed the weekend after...

Thats not normally how it works, Weekend engineering work is planned months in advance and any work that is not completed would be done during the week or put off until a later date.
