Yes, another Portsmouth thread, but with a potential Brighton connection.

According to the local rag down there tonight, we're interested in Jason Pearce. (Mentioned half way down the article about Clogger Lawrence)

Birch: No choice in Lawrence deal - Pompey Past - The News

According to that article, Cardiff have paid a "significant fee" for Lawrence as well as covering all his wages. A fee for a loan signing? Is that a common practise? Or is it just PFC business practice?

Obviously legal, but still sounds a moody way around the transfer window?

Looking at the comments section, many of their fans still have their heads in the sand & up in the clouds.

Isn't Pearce a centre back? I'd have thought that's one position we don't have a problem with.

Appleton mentions getting replacements in on loan.

If you were a player, would you want to go to Pompey, even on loan?

Anyone would jump at the chance to play infront of their amazing fans and for the chance to live in their delightful town???

In fairness if your playing non league reserves, wouldn't you?

They shouldn't be allowed to bring in replacements. If they are short, they can play some of their youth team.

Having to pay a fee for a loan player isn't a rare occurrence, so nothing unique about Portsmouth doing it

I think the FL rules are that you can't have more than five loan players in a matchday squad. Seeing as we already have five, I'd think that rules us out of the running.

Yeah they are really short of players - kitson and makoena on the bench (amongst the 5 named), also loads of prem experience in the team. If they are short allow youth teamers to step up - we have this season.

Just on the subject of Pompey youth teamers: remember the guy that scored their consolation against us in the FA Cup at Withdean last year, Tom Kilbey? Since played in Indonesia and now starring in The Only Way is Essex. Thats some career path that.

Haven't they already got more on loan from WBA than we have? Pearce would be ok as back up for the run in.
