The point is, you've not been able to interpret the laws correctly. You said "if this is correct..perhaps so was the red." No, it shouldn't have been. Just having your feet off the floor isn't reckless. Was Gaston thinking of Stephens' safety as he belatedly swung at a ball that was no longer there?

It's a complete joke. If you follow football a lot, you should know that's not even a foul by Stephens. It really was a foul on Stephens. Had Gaston missed Stephens' foot, and caught Stephens higher up the leg, Stephens would have gone down, and he should have received the free-kick. It's Gaston that was swinging wildly out of control, he just swung into someone's foot.
