What is this crap from the argus that the players are too short to contend in this league? Can this paper bum lick Micky Adams more? It's a disgrace. Stop with the exuses and just tell it like it is Naylor.

He did, it's nothing to do with tactics it's all about us having the smallest players in the division. Poor old Micky, he signed quite a few of our midgets, so quite how it is not his fault is open to debate.

We lost to Stockport because they were too big apparently.

I'm liking these excuses, so much better than Micky saying "the players didn't perform and I'm a bit clueless really, which doesn't help them"

Peter Ward 36 goals 5ft nothing Division 3

If you are good enough, you are tall enough. :)

Our defenders were about 10 times better than those we have now though and we had a midfield led by a colossus in league 1 and 2 (equivalent) terms in those days. The current team would be on the end of at least a 5 goal thrashing from the team we had in the mid 70s if they'd played against each other.

Blimey, he seemed shorter than that! Sorry Pete. :D

But I was viewing from half way up the Chicken Run!

Peter Ward's biography "No goal , no glory" will be published early next year , every current Brighton player should be given a copy to read so they realise the importance of wearing the striped shirt with pride.

Perhaps the club are making a subtle hint that Jake and Tiny wont be with us next season.

No problem agreeing with that....Kuipers v Grummitt...Virgo + Elphick v Cross Rollings or Winstanley.....Horton v Anybody in Midfield today....Forster + Murray v Ward + Mellor......simply no contest...
If only younger fans could be transported back to then, they would immediately see the difference in class...even at the same level of football.

Height should not really be a problem if we are able to control the game and pass it to our feet. Just a thought like...

You mean just how Wilkins wanted to play the game BOF.

I'm sure Dick will never hold his hands up to his mistake thou.

Just the fans who suffer as usually.

Just try playing to feet instead of hoofball.

It's not rocket science but a man has two feet and two legs (well, not quite everyone in the South stand!) and those egs/feet can reach and control a ball in quite a large area of reach and a skillfull player can moved that ball on in a variety of ways.

Play to head and there's little control. You can do little more than hope the ball bounces off your head in the right direction. And, if the other team have bigger players then it's more likely to be bouncing off their heads. Simple, innit?

If this was another manager in charge, I reckon the story would be about the manager wasting valuable precious money on the wrong type of players, and should be looking to buy taller ones.

Why cant anyone just admit we are rubbish and do something about it, maybe then we can get out of this mess

I have backed Naylor many time but the article he wrote today was complete and utter gash and really rather embarrassing and pathetic.
