On the back of the Falmer thread ... there are some odd pronunciations of place names in this country.
Up here in the North East there is a area called Southwick in Sunderland and another area called Chichester in South Shields.
The Southwick is pronounced exactly as it is back in Sussex (and not as in Southwark as some visitors insist)
But Chichester is prounced Chie - (as in the letter sound of I) -chester
We also have a few Portsmouth roads and the word Albion is used for a load of pubs and streets and other businesses ....
