Place name pronunciations

On the back of the Falmer thread ... there are some odd pronunciations of place names in this country.

Up here in the North East there is a area called Southwick in Sunderland and another area called Chichester in South Shields.

The Southwick is pronounced exactly as it is back in Sussex (and not as in Southwark as some visitors insist)

But Chichester is prounced Chie - (as in the letter sound of I) -chester

We also have a few Portsmouth roads and the word Albion is used for a load of pubs and streets and other businesses ....

Any more?

I know of two places in Shropshire. The first, Atcham, is pronounced as it looks - Atch'em.

The second is pronounced Ratch'em, but is actually spelled Rattlinghope.

There's a place on the A23 that we used to have family arguments about. Slaugham, I think? Yeah, OK we didn't get out much clearly but can anyone shed any light? Much obliged.

And why do S.C.R. always pronounce Bosham wrongly?

Woolfardisworthy on the D*&%n/Cornwall border is pronounced Woolsery (some signs now have this also for the tourists who couldn't find it).

London is pronounced LunDern
England is pronounced Ingland for some reason.

Thanks Hwarn.
