A significant chunk of the younger generation of Iranians are moderate, reformist people similar to those anywhere else Mr Scampi. They dress, by Sharia legal standards, 'shockingly', and seek similar freedoms to those enjoyed in most democracies. I suspect that although they may not want to bring down the entire system of Islamic Republicanism, they would make better leaders than the fanatics who are currently in charge.

And surprising pro-western, considering how us and the USA did our best to bugger up their democratic process in the past.

Don't believe what you see in the news. The Americans made the mistake of believing the Iraqi people were waiting for US style Democracy and got a bit of a shock.

The protesters on the streets of Tehran may be well educated middle-class youths yearning for liberal democracy, but they are not representative of the country as a whole.

Needs flattening.

Ideally be good to free the people like we did Iraq but the swampys and students seem to have won the PR battle on that one

If you look up the recent History of Iran, I'm not sure even the most liberal of in the inhabitants would appreciate a Western Invasion.

Especially as we helped bugger up their last chance of democracy in the 1950s.

Not quite sure how you've come to the conclusion that invasions are decided on the basis of PR.

On that basis, we wouldn't have invaded Iraq but would have been in Zimbabwe years ago.

But we are all evil. It must be true because the Ayatollah said so.

The BBC Persian Service is a relatively new TV channel broadcasting from several satellites which can be picked up in Iran and the rest of the Middle East. VOA (Voice of America) also broadcasts a TV channel and both of these are seen as spewing out imperialist propaganda by the ruling theocracy. Ayotollah Khamanei will denounce us as evil because he thinks there is a threat from external influences to depose the Islamic Republic and restore democracy.
