If you deleted something in error, using shift+delete, is it really, really permanently deleted. Is there any way it can be recovered?

Please, please, please.

Pretty much anything can be recovered.

To maximise your chances don't do any file operations on the PC for now.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

You mean like frantically reopening file manager ten times in the next five minutes, hoping the folder would magically reappear?

No, that's fine. I meant creating, moving, copying other files.

Try the tool mentioned on this thread.

When you delete, the PC doesn't actually delete the file, it just marks the hard drive space as being available for use. So, as long as you don't write anything over that space the file will be recoverable.

Take it too the Pink coloured computer place in the parade of shops on Winchester Road down from Summerfields, if DIY fails. They got some stuff off of my old lappy.

Thanks. It's a work laptop, for which I have no admin rights. Hopefully this will not prevent them from helping.

The local PC shop could maybe recover the images from the card in my camera?

Not a good idea, Gary Glitter took his PC to a computer shop to get it fixed and he ended up in prison :nono:

This is kind of the opposite to his situation. I WANT the pictures recovered!

Right. I've now succeeded in downloading recuva to another laptop, but the recovery software refuses to see the camera as an external drive.

The camera is visible through file manager, but as a camera rather than a drive.

Aaargh..

Any ideas how to get round that Bozza?

Actually scratch that. This old laptop has a built in memory card reader. Whoop whoop.

download Recuva and you might get lucky.

Helpful advice from Micro$oft.

Recover lost or deleted files

Don't turn off your computer or save or do anything else and you might be able to retrieve it using

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

With any luck it should be okay as long as your only deleted it recently an haven't downloaded or moved a bunch of other files.

 many thanks kind people. My bacon is saved. Phew.
