On a train...
Does anyone know why why computer may not recognise the extra RAM I've put in it today?

It's the right type, correctly inserted, but it just doesn't think it's there?

Anyone know why it might do this?

try different slots that may help.
Some motherboards only like certain configs of RAM at on one time, check the manual.

you could have too much RAM, my mobo takes 3gig but alot of older boards dont take more than 1gig.

How fast is the ram?

There's a chance the motherboard may not support it, although in most instances (80% ish) RAM is backwards compatible (it just won't work at full whack)

Also, if it's old skool, it used to work in matched pairs.

Your right it did crash mid post.

The RAM is DDR (PC 1 year old)

256MB PC2700 333Mhz.

Currently have 256 and want to double it. Would it be better to get a 512MB stick?

normally 2 x 256 would work without any problems

Are you working on the 7.37 from Preston Park to London Bridge?

And when you've installed the RAM successfully does this mean the train doors will close properly and my train won't be cancelled again?
