I quite like a campy opening/closing ceremony. Fun bit of national pride and celebration of the games that doesn’t take itself overly seriously and tries something a bit different and ambitious.
Phoenix bit was class. Wildly underrated band.
The LA bit felt very “USA IS THE BEST” presented by The Morning Show, sponsored by Sunny Delight and Viagra. Not got high hopes for the next Olympics.

I first got into the Olympics in 1984 with the whole Americana, Carl Lewis and his 4 golds, Rocket Man, the iconic Memorial Colosseum venue, etc.
Having grown up with Hollywood big budget movies and Atari arcade games, America felt like another world...and one that I was in awe of.
With the World Cup in 2026 and Olympics in 2028, it's time to embrace the idea of sport Stateside again. I'd love to be there.
Yes, there's plenty to dislike about modern America, but when it comes to putting on a show, they're gold medallists.
It'll be great.
And let's face it, all of us on this thread will probably be watching again.

What really excites me is knowing that there will be people getting up to go training tomorrow, people we haven’t even heard of yet, who are already on count down for LA28.

I'm pretty sure that the 1984 Olympics was the one where the doping issue reared its head. It seemed to overshadow things.

Having just looked in a full length mirror, I think my best chance for 2028 will probably be on the Derny bike in the velodrome.
Give him creative control.
Otherwise, I think they’ll lean hard into Gen Z chill vibes for the music and Hollywood stunts for the rest.
I did not think it was that bad, and to be fair most finals are pretty dull. That said, i'm not sure how the host nation can control the final.. Qatar produced the best final in my living memory ('78 being the first one I watched) and this was arguably the worst host.
Apart from the opening ceremony which was confusing to say the least but must have been greatly hampered by some terrible weather that aside it’s a throughly Well done Paris you put on a great and safe Olympics without overtly policing everything to a standstill and the spectators were also brilliant making for a great atmosphere at all the events, well done team GB just need to turn those silvers to golds, now looking forward to the Para Olympics to start

That is the Paralympics. It's a great event, but it's not the Olympics.
Not disagreeing but it was probably the overt policing that kept the peace. Paris was flooded with police. The rest of France must have been a thieve’s paradise
