A film about just four of the British soldiers killed Iraq thus far.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lance Corporal Ben Hyde, Royal Military Police.

Living In a Box
Tragic wasted loss of life

When will this madness end ?

Reading about the blocked inquiry by the Americans, when our boys got run off the road left me feeling infuriated, but also a strange sense of pride. Brave souls out there, facing a daily battle to survive for the good of the country. Such a sad waste of young lives. Real life heroes, who gave their lives to a deadly cause.

May they rest in peace.

Turn to the six o'clock news, another soldier dies
Tried to hide it but I couldn't help it, I had to cry
When my little boy asked me daddy was he your friend
I said no, I didn't even know him

But he was somebody's someone, a neighbor, a husband
A brother, a father, and a mother's only son
He was an uncle, a cousin, somebody's best friend
And I'm sure at times a shoulder to lean on
He was somebody's someone

So I sat there in that chair and helped him understand
How this brave young man gave his life for our land
And although he's someone we'll never know
To you and me he is a hero

He was somebody's someone, a neighbor, a husband
A brother, a father, and a mother's only son
He was an uncle, a cousin, somebody's best friend
And I'm sure at times a shoulder to lean on
He was somebody's someone

To the world he was a total stranger
Who kept us safe and out of danger
But now he's just a picture on TV
Somebody's memory

He was somebody's someone, a neighbor, a husband
A brother, a father, and a mother's only son
He was an uncle, a cousin, somebody's best friend
And I'm sure at times a shoulder to lean on
He was somebody's someone
He was somebody's someone

Good choice Fruity (Lonestar for those who don't know). One of only a handful of songs which cause me problems on the tear duct front.

Have you heard the "Message From Home" version of "I'm Already There", also by Lonestar?

I agree it is a damn shame that anyone should die. But lets get things in perspective here: these lads willingly joined the armed forces and therefor had to expect at one time or another to be in a battle/war and get shot at. They are all doing a great job out there for us but they are just doing their jobs at the end of the day.

100% agree, but doesn't mean we shouldn't remember them when they are killed doing their jobs. It costs nothing, and is the very least they and their families deserve.

They played a clip tonight of a bereaved father reading a letter from his dead son (a "Bluey" they called it; apparrently ity is a letter written by service men and women commited to action, in the event they get killed).

It started, "Dear Mum and Dad, if you are reading this you know I will not be coming home..."

That is f****** sad

I found it disturbing that Tony Blairs lackeys refused to sanction a meeting between a bereaved father and the PM.

Might be understandable if we are talking thousands of deaths, but 130 odd?

Isn't that the least they deserve?

Absolutley. Especially as His Tonyness found time to meet with Shilpa Shetty 2 days after she left the horror of the BB house...

...but apparently his schedule is too full to meet the parents of the service men and woman killed in his Middle Eastern adventure. Twat.

You would think, wouldn't you? The man that made the final decision to send our troops over there, doesn't have the decency to thank them for their own son giving his life, paid or unpaid.

Disgusting behaviour. :nono:
