OT - Internet Connection

Boring quandary. Probably very simple.

I have tried to download Avira and Windows Live Messenger, but it is telling me it can't detect a working internet connection - despite having one.

Any ideas, Techies, on how to fix that?

Have you tried turning it off and then on again!

Turning it off and on again is a genuinely good start. Failing that check your firewall on your PC isn't blocking the outward connection.

The power supply has been removed and reapplied to no success. I tried turning off Firewall completely, but that didn't seem to help in the slightest. Odd one.

I have downloaded some malware stuff, but it won't let me install it due to lack of internet connection. Hmph!

Check that you have DNS servers, many is the time I have been caught by that.

Thanks for that. I tried it and got a DNS server (had to google that) number, but it doesn't seem to have helped.

Being a bit of a technophobe, I may have to nip into PC world at this rate.

If its on a new computer... check your date and time are correct. It wouldn't connect to mine, and turned out because it was i forgot to set my year to being 2009 instead of 2010.

You could always do the unthinkable and call your ISP for advice.
