Why are you in such a rush to get back?
Why do you even need to book advance tickets - there are lots of other ways to do this relatively cheaply without having to catch set trains.

London Bridge to East Croydon is only 15 mins (assuming you are heading south to Sussex). Change at E Croydon for the coast or even stay on the train. Quite a few trains to the coast from L Bridge

If you really need to get an earlier train south, I'd consider that.

You can get a Southern daysave ticket that allows 4 people to travel for £20 - so a fiver each. If there is only one of you then it's £10 for one person. This doesn't include the tube though.
Or you can get a First Capital Connect travelcard that will get you all the way there, about £18 without a network card, £12 with

I shall be getting at return to Victoria from Haywards Heath on the day with tube travel included for £13.40 (Young Persons).

£25.20 for the same deal from Brighton without a railcard.

If you want to save the pennies further, you can order your ticket here and pick it up on the day of travel and get their extra £15% discount.

Was just over £11 to get to Euston the other week from HH.

Train from deepest north Essex into Liverpool Street, then toob to Leyton.

Or maybe drive and park up. Easier for getting home, plus can listen to Sports Report driving back, all toasty and warm.
