I guess it's because she didn't ask for their permission as it's their mascot and perhaps they didn't want that sort of publicity. As it happens it's generated them a lot more publicity than they could have imagined!

Plus all mascots know the first rule of mascoting is that you don't 'reveal' yourself and she has done that in more ways than one!

Oh and she lied to generate more publicity as she stated that she is the only female mascot in the country as there are a few others.
