A functional VAR has been quite a refreshing revelation. I was anti-VAR before Russia 2018, but it worked well there so I was lulled into thinking it might be ok. Then it arrived in the Premier League and has been an unmitigated disaster every week, an absolute pigs ear. Now another tournament arrives and we see how it should be used.

It'll still be an utter shitshow again come August. But like an unsightly wart, we're stuck with it I suppose.

Refereeing has generally been superb in this tournament so far. They just ignore the play acting and let play continue.
